The story of Andy Murray's epic US Open triumph including extended highlights of the epic final. 10th September, 2012. This was the day that Andy Murray finally emerged triumphant in a Grand Slam final by beating reigning champion Novak Djokovic in the US Open. It was one of the great finals of the modern era – an epic battle between two players matching each other in skill and determination. Murray, the recent Olympic gold medal winner had faced some tough matches on the way to the final. But, in overcoming Lopez, Raonic, Cilic and Tomas Berdych in the semi-final, Andy Murray gave notice of his incredible form and showed he had the mental strength to fight back when down. It was, however, the final in a gusty Arthur Ashe Stadium that will really live in the memory. The match soon developed into a mesmerising contest as both players' performance peaked and dipped throughout the night. It became a nerve-jangling, breathtaking thriller; at times a war of attrition, at times incredibly skilful, powerful and deft. Then, after four hours and 54 minutes, Murray finally emerged triumphant, sinking to his knees in delight, disbelief and sheer exhaustion.
