- Van der Valk is a British television crime-drama TV series based on the novel Nicolas Freeling. Taking place in Amsterdam, detective Simon "Piet" van der Valk investigates a variety of cases with his cynical personality and insightful nature. He often clashes with his assistant, the naive Inspecteur Johnny Kroon. His cases find him dealing with drugs, sex, and murder in this gritty detective show.
