Synopsis:
A comprehensive six hours plus double disc celebration of the glorious golden age of British Variety, from the earliest era of sound cinema. This special extra length edition contains the very best performers and singers from radio, music hall and the theatre, who are seen here making their fledgling forays into the ‘talkies’. The performances herein have all rarely been seen since they were shown as part of the Pathé cinema newsreels of the day.
Variety Acts and Turns Of The Early 1930s’ is a nostalgic celebration of the whole diversity of Variety entertainers; ventriloquists, jugglers, ‘big band’ dance orchestras, character comedy sketches, balladeers and plenty of song and dance routines. Artistes include baritone Lance Fairfax, Robb Wilton and his comic monologues, pianists Leslie ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson and Charlie Kunz, Tommy Handley, Ronald Frankau, Al Bowlly, Charlie Chaplin, Sophie Tucker, Charles Coburn, Mantovani and dozens more!
In the early 1930s, Pathé went all out to film the established radio and theatre variety acts of the day, taking advantage of the advent of cinematic sound to provide big screen entertainment the likes of which had never been seen before.
