May 8th, 1945, the day World War Two officially ended in Europe. With Hitler's suicide in his Berlin Bunker on April 30th, the Third Reich fell under the control of his successor, Karl Doenitz. Under Doenitz's orders, General Alfred Johl was sent to S.H.A.E.F. (Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces) to seek terms for an end to the war. After six years of conflict and the loss of millions of lives, the Nazi menace had been crushed and the war in Europe was finally over. This insightful program, made to coincide with the sixtieth anniversary of VE-Day, charts the events that led to the end of the war, as well as the festivities that followed, along with exclusive interviews from many different sources and nations who witnessed it all first-hand.
