The stage at the Hammersmith Odeon Theatre has seen thousands of bands perform over the years but few could have put its stability to the test more then Venom. This epic concert filmed as part of the Live From London series in 1985, shows what is possible when a high-octane crowd meets a heavy metal band determined to blow them away. Brace yourself for monster tracks including Black Metal, Welcome To Hell and In Nomine Satanas, and be prepared for fireworks both on and off the stage!!The band's roots date back to 1978 when various elements of three different bands merged - Guillotine, Oberon and Dwarf Star - the end result seeing Anthony Bray on drums, Conrad Lant on bass, Jeffrey Dunn on guitar and Clive Archer doing the vocals. Each member took on a stage name, all with Satanic references, Archer became Jesus Christ , Lant - Cronos , Bray - Adaddon and Dunn - Mantas . In 1980, after recording a handful of tracks including Raise The Dead and Angel Dust , Archer left and Venom became a three-piece band. Their first recording as the new line-up was the single In League With Satan / Live Like An Angel released in 1981 through Neat Records, and later in the same year their debut album Welcome To Hell hit the shops. The album had a mixed reception. Musically it was groundbreaking, as Venom introduced audiences to a faster, rougher heavy metal sound but the heavy use of Satanic references led to criticism. Black Metal their followup album released in 1982 is regarded as the spark which lead to the development of extreme metal .
