- Synopsis:
- Governor Riccardo is in love with his secretary Renato's wife Amelia. He visits a fortune teller who informs him that he is to be assassinated by the next person to shake his hand; this turns out to be Renato. Riccardo encounters Amelia and confesses his love to her; she responds in kind, but they are disturbed by Renato. When Renato discovers the situation, he vows to kill Riccardo, and joins the men plotting against him.
