FeIsenstein's Ritter Blaubart theatre production of 1963, filmed in 1973, uses the original score of the French composer Jacques Offenbach. It was first performed to great critical acclaim in Paris 1866. Felsenstein's adaption of this satirical opera bouffe is full of political innuendo, saucy witticism and situation comedy. It is an exciting production that both enchants and provokes at the same time. It is pure magic!
