I like that Mr Van Damme is willing to take on unusual roles and even laugh at himself (those ads...)
In this film he plays an ex-soldier who became mute after an explosion. He takes drugs and deals them but has a heart to help the most desperate.
Meanwhile, two young boys get caught up with the local drug cartel and the older boy tries to extricate the younger...
If the film reflects the casual brutality of cartels then it's unflinching in doing so. The characters are (mostly) soulless bodies walking, talking and killing...to stay alive and in favour with their bosses. The film reeks of the desperation of being stuck in such an environment. If you were expecting AWOL, or Bloodsport - this is nothing like it. There's very little martial arts.
Can the boys escape the life? Is van Damme older than the can of peas in a single guys cupboard?
It's not an enjoyable watch but thumbs up to Mr Van Damme for showing you how glad you are that you don't live where his character does...
