A well-meaning philanthropist places an advert pledging to give away 30 million tomans to someone in need, but the generous act causes chaos among the crowds that arrive to claim the gift. 'Wednesday, May 9' is broken up into three separate narratives: a woman who needs the money for a life-changing operation for her disabled husband, a pregnant woman who needs the money to get her innocent husband out of jail and the third is that of the misguided benefactor himself. This Venice award-winning, debut feature from director Vahid Jalilvand highlights the plight of the poor in Iran and how generosity teamed with faulty judgement can worsen the situation.
