From parrots and shipwrecks to sharks and glittering coral reefs, the Caribbean is a glorious spectacle of sun, sand and warm blue seas. Yet behind the tranquil beauty, it is the containing cycle of hurricanes and erupting volcanoes that have shaped the region's breathtaking landscape. Taking us from the islands of the West Indies through Cuba, Puerto Rico and on to the coast of central America, this portrait of the region encompasses boiling lakes, dense jungles, windswept deserts, limestone caves, stunning coral reefs and an incredible array of wildlife. The journey features some truly amazing sights including vast flocks of flamingos, scarlet ibis, spotted dolphins, legions of marching land crabs and a ghostly shipwreck crewed by barracudas and squirrel fish. And, venturing on to the spectacular barrier reef of the Americas, we witness more delights: baby crocodiles hiding in remote coral atolls; humpback whale courting with beautiful songs and thimble jelly fish, false killer whales, orcas and whale sharks congregating in a feeding frenzy.
