Synopsis:
As the 2010/11 season drew nearer its climax Wolves played host to arch rivals West Bromwich Albion in a match that Wanderers simply had to win. And win they did, in convincing style, thrashing The Baggies 3-1 in front of a packed Molineux as Steven Fletcher struck twice either side of an Adlene Guedioura goal. If anticipation surrounding the derby clash wasn't great enough already Mick McCarthy's team were under added pressure as Wolves sat uncomfortably in the relegation zone before the match. From kick off, and with so much at stake, Wolves showed the greater desire to take all the points from the encounter with the breakthrough coming after just 15 minutes. A lively looking Fletcher pounced to net his first of the day with a low shot that fell nicely for the forward as the opposition struggled to deal with a corner Narrowly missing out earlier in the game Guedioura's patience paid off as he found himself in space to volley the ball sweetly into the Albion's net to make it 2-0 and just two minutes after the break Fletcher bagged himself another to take an unassailable lead from which the Albion could only reply with a consolation penalty. The afternoon belonged to Wolves and the Molineux faithful, who were in full voice, were rewarded with three vital points that edged Wolves out of the relegation zone with just two more matches to play.
