- With his 'wingless wonders', punishing work rate and disclipined defence, Ramsey engineered a veritable English miracle. The outcry over the dropping of Greaves was only dispelled in the final as his replacement bagged the first World Cup Final hat trick. It was a fascinating tournament with Eusebio battling North Korea (who beat Italy!) in a sensational Quarter-Final at Goodison. Pele was kicked to pieces by some ruthless Portuguese tackling, only topped by Argentina's outrageous antics against the host nation.
