Jim Carrey plays Carl Allen, bank employee still struggling to come to terms with his marriage break up. While his ex-wife and friends have all moved on in life, he remains stuck in neutral and indoors watching films, refusing to take any risks. Then a chance reunion with a friend leads him to adopt the ‘yes’ mantra, by ditching ‘maybe’ and ‘no’, opening up a new world of opportunities. Having seen Liar Liar with Carrey previously, I’m pleased to confirm this is the much better film, with a memorable script, that balances humour with romance and avoids vulgar pitfalls. Jim shows his usual zany style but with a little more range, as he ties to keep control of his roller coaster lifestyle while perusing the girl of his dreams played very well by Zooey Deschanel. Yes Man is a not a great film by any means, but for Jim Carrey its entertaining and most of all, fun.
When Jim Carrey is at his comedic best then there's very few actors that can generate more laughs. Sadly this is yet another weak comedy which Carrey really should have passed on, there are a few fairly funny moments but really nothing that memorable and the whole film just seemed like a rehashed version of Liar Liar.
