Fresh out of reform school after attempting to throttle his father with a necktie, Nobuo (Akira Kobayashi) is taken under the wing of Keiko (Sachiko Hidari), an idealistic young volunteer for the BBS (Big Brothers and Sisters) rehabilitation programme. The pair form an uneasy and unlikely friendship as she takes him into the bosom of her own family, but her attempts to keep him on the straight and narrow become strained when it is clear that Nobuo finds it difficult to make a clean break with his tearaway past.
