Dull stuff - Ballad of a Soldier review by JG

Spoiler Alert

Hoping for much better having recently seen the terrific The Cranes are Flying, made during the same period. This is saccharine commi kitsch, made to please the Party bosses, full of wholesome patriotic young heroes, filmed in what was by then a diluted and cliched Soviet style.

A beautiful film - Ballad of a Soldier review by SoniaGee

I seldom write a review, but this film was (to me) beautiful. B+W, 1949--it was made, still with

some footage of war, and the aftermath of it.

The personal relationships in it, were most moving.

Yes--perhaps done for the Communist dogma, but lovely , for all that.

I was gripped throughout..........and recommend.
