Good bio about a top man if a slightly overrated manager. Let’s get this straight we were pretty ropey in 86 including the hand of god debacle. 1990 we rode our luck. Having said that he seems to have been universally loved and this film proves why. An extremely brave and likeable man. Could have done with a few amusing stories of which there are many ,nonetheless watch it, you won’t regret it.
I really enjoyed this film, okay I agree the style is fragmented, dancing back and forth through the years of his football management, but never the less it tells the story of one of the greatest English football managers of all time. Sir Bobby's enthusiam for the game was legendary, he was a real gent and really cared about his players. It shows how he brought the young Ronaldo (the Brazilian one, not CR7) to Barcelona and groomed him to become one of the greatest players of his generation. Many former players speak fondly of Bobby and his long lasting influence on their lives. Contributions from Sir Alex Ferguson, Gary Linneker, Paul Gascoigne, Jose Mourinhio who was his assistant, and many other former players and his lovely wife Elsie. Watch it, you don't even have to like football to admire and respect the man, Sir Bobby Robson.
Trying not to be too biased but Bobby Robson was a large part of my life growing up as I'm an Ipswich supporter and what he did for the club in the 70's and early 80's is basically legendary for a leafy out the way club. The film charts his time at Ipswich, Newcastle, abroad briefly at Porto/PSV but centres quite a bit on his time at Barcelona and period with England and the unsavoury and unwarranted treatment from the press. Contributions from Pep Quadiola, Terry Butcher, Gary Lineker, Gazza, Alan Shearer and Jose Mourinho (same snarling facial expressions when he was younger)! A gentleman above all and certainly the type of manager they don't make anymore and sadly missed...a must watch.
