- Ray's searing critique of the Indian caste system stars Om Puri as Dukhi, an untouchable who asks the village Brahmin to set an auspicious date for his daughter's wedding. When Dukhi undertakes arduous household chores in return, a tragedy befalls him, leaving the Brahmin with a dilemma of conscience.
