Excellent Spin-off Movie from Breaking Bad with Flashbacks Featuring Familiar Faces... - El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie review by PV

Spoiler Alert
06/11/2020

I enjoyed this spin-off movie, as I enjoyed the spin-off TV series BETTER CALL SAUL. Of course, neither that nor this is the sublime wonderful US TV drama series BREAKING BAD, just about the best TV drama of the last decade, despite the soppy slushy later series - the pilot of BREAKING BAD is the best pilot for any drama I have ever seen - ever. Brilliant!

So this movie recreates some flashback scenes from BREAKING BAD - and suspension of disbelief is needed as the character Jesse Pinkman looks much older as, naturally, Aaron Paul has aged in 5-10 years. Never mind. Flashbacks are needed in a drama like this and BETTER CALL SAUL. The way it is.

There is enough in this movie to make it work, to be honest - some neat set-ups and a quest for Jesse. Some old friend characters pop up again too - and amusing that some who died in the TV series also appear in newly-filmed flashback, including Walter White himself played by Bryan Cranston, brilliantly - always.

I was hooked and glued to my seat at this and it's a satisfying watch/. Some great music as usual on BREAKING BAD (and lots of US TV drama series which are SO superior to UK drama series, esp inhouse pc woke BBC nonsense which feel like 4th rate preachy lectures).

Not quite 5 stars but a solid 4. Watch it! Recommended.

Disappointing - El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie review by GI

Spoiler Alert
11/04/2021

Less a sequel and more an extended final episode of the popular TV series and which offers the story of Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) after his escape during the climactic final episode of the series. Whilst Breaking Bad has fallen into almost cult status it was on occasion a long winded soap opera with some stunning episodes and some rather tedious ones. This final movie gives closure on the Jesse character and offers a ten minute recap at the beginning which helps a little as a reminder as it's been so long. Jesse still traumatised by being kept in virtual slavery seeks out old friends to help him get away as the police intensify their search for him. He is haunted by memories of his relationship with Walter but he knows where Todd, his nemesis from the meth lab hides his money but others are also after it. Bryan Cranston, Jonathan Banks and Jesse Plemons all make appearances. For fans it has interest but even so it's not a particularly exciting film and offers anti-climax at steady intervals. Consequently it's a bit disappointing but worth checking out if you are a huge fan of Breaking Bad.

Fans Only - El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie review by SpecOfSand

Spoiler Alert
26/04/2021

We found it a bit slow & at times quite boring.  If you are already a fan of the series then I can understand this might give you closure, tie up loose ends as it were but we had not seen any Breaking Bad episodes & sort of assumed this was a stand alone story, film.  Not really, it's a continuation of the series & as such we were, at times, a little lost.

Not for us hence the 2 star'.
