This starts as disfunctional family chaos but ends with family bonding. Funny but not laugh out loud. You guess the little girl (Abigail Breslin) will not succeed but that doesn't matter. She is the catylst for family togetherness. Greta performances by Steve Carroll and especially Alan Arkin.

Marvellous. You cannot help but love this film with its disastrously quirky family and their van. From a frankly ludicrous premise it takes ever sillier turns, to the satisfyingly cringemaking finale. And if you see some of the plot twists coming over the horizon, it doesn't seem to matter. You just have longer to wonder if they're really going to pull it off. Making full use of a small budget, you can see they all had fun making this film. It's feelgood, it's loopy, it's the road movie to end the genre but it's highly recommended.

A fun film to watch. Well acted by all, including the minors, and full of humour, both dark and more light-hearted. All round excellent entertainment and well worth watching.

This film is absolutely dreadful. The plot is ridiculous, the players are caricatures, the acting stereotyped. How this could be nominated for awards I can not imagine. Do not waste your time watching this.

Dysfunctional family coming together through adversity - Little Miss Sunshine review by JO

...and the merits of an absolutely blank one dimensional mother miscast as Toni Colette. They needed someone more background than this tuff gal...or rewritten her as slightly more edgy. She did not fit into the cast of extremity that was this film at best and at worst her character was downright sappy. The father starts and dresses and seems destined to be a stereotypical loser - American style. Somewhere in the edit the transition of his character from being an arsehole, goal-centred and neglectful father to an actioned, supportive, go getting, rule breaking punk that anyone would love to have as a dad - has been lost. The scene where this happens?????

Tho his heroin smoking dad too also seems to have an unsubstantiated psychological breakthrough as a truly wonderful being ???!! Maybe then its hereditary :/

The son - ummmm - LOVE Paul Dano and he does his best with the character tho perhaps the wishfully thinking directors believe that a stroppy teenager will just drop his hormonal nastiness at a few well chosen words/actions from family and situation. Tricky to believe ...however all in all if you can suspend psychological development of character ...an enjoyable film. Kid is flawless ...tho dread her future as child actress :)

Wife not so keen, but she hates Bagdad Cafe! Just have to give it 5 as the interaction is great. Not over keen on some US dialogue and acting, but the zany come ordinary-family sort of works in this. Not seen a matching set of US actors do so well together.......that got to be worth a 5..........
