This oh so average comedy strives so hard to be the 'Inbetweeners" for ITV but fails miserably. With cliched outdated scenarios we see over and over again, this was a lost opportunity to do something different. Instead, we see the usual hapless boys who play the usual subservience to the precocious smug superiority of the hard to reach girls. Yawn!
Tom Rosenthal does a superb impression of Simon Bird's character from The Inbetweeners. In fact a superb impression of Simon Bird in anything he does. In fact, are they both the same person? I cannot tell them apart and have never seen them in the same room. Hmmmm!
Give it a try if you have a few hours to kill. But be prepared for the same tame jokes in every episode.
For me Grumio steals the show, Ryan Sampson seems to have an easy part to act, the grumpy slave but he has that comic timing which I kills me. Another reviewer compares plebs with inbetweeners. While the target demographic (that is to say 15 - 20) is similar, the level of acting skill is not. I, by the way am not in this age group but have the capacity to regress at will. Plebs is 2 leagues better. The script is not the best part of it I'll agree but the comedy timing is Rolex.
