Too Disney - The Woman King review by Crocodileroc

Spoiler Alert
13/07/2023

I had to force myself to watch it all the way through.  It was not believable and too much like Bruce Lee meets Zulu.  I managed to stay awake until the end.  One of the  heroines was a reasonable actress but she simply lacked the build to realistically be an Amazon.

Not too bad overall... - The Woman King review by TB

But don't be fooled into thinking this is action-packed, it's not (although the action parts are quite machete-wielding brutal).

It's actually quite boring in parts, and some elements of the plot seemed very contrived (esp. considering it is "inspired by true events").. so this meant I didn't really care for the characters that much (although I did care for their cause), I wasn't really invested in it...

But not too bad overall I guess.. meh... 3 stars is probably generous - I wanted to like it more than I did.

A Well crafted Film - The Woman King review by GJ

Spoiler Alert
05/08/2023

The Woman King is a piece of work that everyone associated with it can be proud of .

While not historically accurate, it draws upon African history to tell a rich , compelling story of warriors living in a world where human values are quashed in favour of commodities .

All the performances are excellent , most notably Viola Davis , Thuso Mbedu, Lashana Lynch Sheila Atim and John Boyaga

In fact all the performances are top-notch , which is a credit to director Gina Prince-Bythewood.

She crafts a grand, heartfelt , fierce film that always keeps your attention.

A film well worth watching.
