Synopsis:
A hot morning in July and the Dorset town of Broadchurch is bracing itself for the tourist season when Danny Latimer, an 11 year old schoolboy, goes missing. His mother, Beth, frantically starts to search for him while her best friend, Ellie Miller, a local police officer, arrives at work to discover that the promotion she thought was hers has gone to D.I. Alec Hardy an outsider with a reputation for failure. When Danny's body is found beneath the picturesque cliffs that dominate the town opposites collide. Both Miller and Hardy are determined to solve the mystery of Danny's murder, Ellie perhaps too sensitive to the people in her community; Alec as efficient as he is blunt.
When news of the crime spreads through the town, a chain reaction begins which will put Broadchurch under a national spotlight, pulling the town, its residents and its secrets, apart.

A compelling story bringing some scandi-noir elements to the English police procedural enriched by an emphasis on the impact on the community. Tennant and Coleman good leads with strong supporting cast.

Did not see this on tv but glad not to have frequent interruptions for itv advertising.

very watchable and engrossing murder story. (happens before ep1 so not graphic)

Dwells alot on the greaving family and, oddly, the local/national newpaper activity, as if it is making some point about press coverage and attitude.

Everyone has a secret. Lordy, do I mean everyone. Affairs, potential fatal illness, undeclared parenthood, so it veers towards melodrama towards the end, but by then we are hooked anyway.

And always set in the framed and filtered coastal town, where those cliffs look splendid but add an air of detachment and unreality.

Every now and then a DVD comes along which you want to give more stars to than 5 because you have been giving 4 and 5 to fairly good stuff but this is just so much better than those. It is a British "Bridge" only less gory. I thought that since "Life on Mars" that British detective dramas were average and that only the Danes did it well. Tenant and Colman blow my little hypothesis out of the water. You will be hard pressed to watch this one episode at a time. Do not watch if your doing anything important the next day. The acting is fantastic, I thought Colman was light comedy only, she does a mean drama. Tenant is awesome. Even the plot is pretty good.
