2015 Sundance Film Festival World Cinema Audience Award Documentary
This is a documentary, thankfully without a poncey presenter hogging the limelight. Instead, the very personable "talking heads" are some of the ordinary people who were fortunate enough to "ride" this wonderful roller-coaster journey. Top class home entertainment.
Set against the backdrop of Thatcher's heartless and vindictive destruction of the mining industry, Dark Horse relates the story of a horse who gives spirit to a close knit Welsh community. As JT comments, the style does smack of a TV documentary and will therefore probably only appeal to fans of the horse racing community but at least the storyline is presented realistically as there's no dream ending to the career of Dream, who appears as feisty and independently minded as Jan, apart from grazing in the fields
Was disappointed with the film, as I had been tempted with the trailer. Was not expecting a television-style documentary. The storyline had great potential but did not like the style of film at all.
