- Steve Martin makes his film-starring debut in this wild and crazy comedy hit The Jerk. Steve portrays Navin Johnson, adopted son of a poor black sharecropper family, whose crazy inventions lead him from rags to riches and right back to rags. Along the way, he's smitten with a lady motorcycle racer, survives a series of screwball attacks by a deranged killer, becomes a millionaire by inventing the "Opti-grab" handle for eyeglasses - and shows why he's on of the hottest comic performers in the world.

Silly Fun - The Jerk review by griggs
The Jerk creeps up on you. At first, it’s just a load of gags—some hit, some miss—but the longer you stick with it, the funnier it gets. Steve Martin goes all in, and while some jokes still land, others feel a bit dated. But hey, that’s time for you. It’s completely daft, never takes itself seriously, and when it works, it’s properly funny. Not every scene’s a winner, but if you’re up for something silly, you could do much worse.

Steve when young - The Jerk review by NC
Bit of an old film now but does have some funny/zany moments. 1979! Steve dwindled a bit, doing Bilko was a big error for sure. Trains Boats and Automobiles, All of Me, and House-sitter prob a few of his better ones.
