- Jigsaw is back. The brilliant, disturbed mastermind who wreaked havoc on his victims in last year's SAW is back for another round of horrifying life-or-death games. When a new murder victim is discovered with all the signs of Jigsaw's hand, Detective Eric Mathews (Donnie Wahlberg) begins a full investigation and apprehends Jigsaw with little effort. Not as inventive or shocking as the original. - Saw II review by CP Customer
The original 'Saw', in my opinion was one of the best horror films of the past ten years. Despite its low budget and hammy acting, it had a terrific story that hooked you from the moment it started, a plot that twisted and turned and kept you kept you guessing until the end, some inspired direction and even more inspired gory death sequences. As sequels go, 'Saw II' was something I was really looking forward to seeing. And while I knew it probably wasn't going to be as good as the original, I really wasn't expecting to be so disappointed. While it's not a bad film by any means, it doesn't even come close to the original film. Although entertaining, the plot was fairly linear and sadly lacking the shock value, intensity and inventiveness of the original. There were fewer death traps, very little suspense, and what suspense there was only built up in the final 10 minutes.

Don’t watch if you don’t like needles - Saw II review by HW
A horror sequel that could be better than the original? Surely not! The plot somehow has been turned up more for intensity: a detective has to bargain in person with Jigsaw himself when it turns out the copper’s son has been locked in a house with a whole bunch of alarming adults; all trying to work their way out through Jigsaw’s fiendish, deadly puzzles. Also I never saw the twist coming, where the film messes with your sense of time and plot structure. Even more surprisingly, despite there being more screen deaths the franchise was still relying on plot and tension over gore.
