"Surviving Christmas with the Relatives" is a heart-warming, riotous take on a traditional festive get-together, as two sisters and their dysfunctional families unite in their recently deceased parents' dilapidated country home for a three-day ordeal, with chaotic consequences. Dan (Julian Ovenden) and Miranda (Gemma Whelan) are two city dwellers who have recently escaped with their kids to a new life in the countryside after inheriting her family home. Miranda's sister Lyla (Joely Richardson), a fading Hollywood star and her alcoholic agent and husband Trent (Michael Landes), arrive from America with their children for Christmas.
Festive cheer soon turns to disappointment when they see the old family home resembles a building site. To make matters worse, Dan's son and ex-wife Miriam (Sally Phillips) unexpectedly arrive, adding fuel to the fire. Ancient sibling rivalries and family feuds quickly flare up to sabotage any hope for a season of good will.
