This was a wonderful family afternoon film, or one of those you watch with your girlfriends over wine and popcorn.
Funny in places, there is a touch of real life running through it.
The best films leave us with a smile and the knowledge and continued dependence on hope and this films delivers that in buckets.
Old-style rom com, expected more scenery etc - not really like the book.
Additional features quite interesting on the relation between the writer rebuilding the property and rebuilding her emotional life. Pleasant enough for a film of that era but the world has definitely moved on!
Well, there are worse ways to pass an evening, I suppose. But if you really want to spend your time in the company of some Americanised sentimental twaddle that just wants to dig up lots of stereotypes about Europeans (sex-crazed Italians, grumpy Germans, etc etc), this is the film for you. 9/10? Pur-lease.
