Gladiator with no substence
- Kingdom of Heaven review by CP Customer
This could have been an excellent film, the real negative factor for me was that Orlando Bloom could not carry the central role. Sure he is fine as an elf or as a prince in Troy but he is no hard man that could inspire people to lay down there lives... unfortunate as if there was a stronger character in this role the film would have been excellent, visually stunning.

Inventors of Jihad
- Kingdom of Heaven review by NC
Alas King Richard and his merry men managed, amongst others in the name of God, to create Jihad. They managed to execute 3000 soldiers/prisoners at Ayyadieh, and that lead to tit for tat right up to today's news.
Confess Orlando is a bit precious to be a great leader of the time.....the speech on the walls of Jerusalem is very like the weak one given by his ladyfriend in Pirates.
However, on the projector and Blu Ray the colour and ambience work quite well, and am a sucker for Knights in armour stuff, although the blood spray does get a bit excessive here and there.
El Cid is a well old film now, and nobody today could probably sit through it, but Charlton was the biz then, after he had done Ben Hur. He was at least credible big-guy............

Enjoyed this
- Kingdom of Heaven review by CS
Liked this film, good storyline in my opinion and lots of action. But would agree with others this is a 'one watch' movie and not one I would
wish to watch again.

Unmemorable
- Kingdom of Heaven review by Cherry
I got this one out a while ago, forgot I'd seen it and requested it again, so unmemorable it is. Looks good visually and Orlando is gorgeous but there's no substance to it.

Historical Epic - A Film To Rediscover. It's fantastic
- Kingdom of Heaven review by GI
In the Director's Cut form this is a marvellous historical epic set in during The Crusades of the twelfth century and the embittered religious struggle for Jerusalem. Director Ridley Scott disowned the incoherent theatrical version after it had been cut by a nervous studio. Their mistake because that release garnered nothing but bad reviews and a confused public. Back in it's fully restored length under Scott's supervision this is simply a highly impressive film and one of his more underrated movies. Orlando Bloom excels as the heroic Balian a humble blacksmith who rises to be the defender of Jerusalem. Supported by a wonderful cast that includes Eva Green, Jeremy Irons, David Thewlis (one of the more interesting characters in the longer version), Brendan Gleeson, Edward Norton and Liam Neeson amongst others. The battle scenes are extraordinary and rival those in The Lord of The Rings trilogy and even TVs Game of Thrones and the narrative is neatly balanced in its judgement of the two warring religions. Like all of Scott's epic films this is visually impressive, he's able to fully recreate the world in which his narratives play out be they historical to futuristic to alien , and here he shows a grimy, yet somehow tranquil European landscape juxtapositioned with a hot, desert lands of the Middle East. This is a film about heroism, honour and love. A film worthy of rediscovery.
