Yet another reincarnation of Star Trek
- The Orville: Series 1 review by MD
Painfully modern, anodyne, desexed and politically correct with plenty of action to interest little boys. For all that, it's not completely unwatchable. There is some passable humour and genuine sci-fi ideas.

A fine nod to the sci fi of the 70s
- The Orville: Series 1 review by RP
Thankfully this isn't a Family Guy in Space. Seth MacFarlane clearly has a soft spot for the Star Trek type series of his youth. While humour is there the stories are nice nods to the ethical dilemmas the more hopeful sc fi series approached. Not always with the ending you would expect. As with any ensemble cast the stories stand or fall on how the audience invest in the characters. They are a nice mixture and carry the episodes well. They are all different enough for us to care about them. If you liked Star Trek and all that followed it, then you probably will enjoy the series. Artfully done without too many antics that would spoil the pace and flow. Already granted a second series. It is well worth a watch.

Better star trek than star trek
- The Orville: Series 1 review by JD
Given the divisive and extremely poor 'new trek' it was looking like star trek as we know it was dead.
But no, Seth has shown us you can still make great trek. It might not be called startrek, but Seths passion for this classic scifi is clear.
It has all the things that made proper star trek so great. Including the welcome return of stories, characters, situations that arent simply sombodies opinion or messages but offering up genuine moral dilemas or clearly stating there are 2 sides to every argument. At the very least this is as good as any proper star trek (of course you cant replace shatner or beat 'the best of both worlds') and makes the recent efforts to modernise star trek by paramount on both film and streaming look horribly out of touch.
The Orville, although i believe this touch was forced by the studio, also has its own touch of brilliance. And thats the humour. Its sprinkled in light touches so as not to turn the program into a farce, but at times is incredibly funny. Often Jokes will be more for the sci fi fans but are superbly well integrated into what are almost always very serious stories.
cmon CP, get the other seasons!

Wanted to like it , but ...
- The Orville: Series 1 review by Other Worlds
I'm a a big fan of Star Trek (in all its guises ) and I'm also sympathetic to the kind of fan-fiction that a series like that can engender so I came to this with more than an open mind , I really wanted to like it. The simple fact is that it is just is not that funny. So sorry but it has to be a thumbs down from me .
