Chilling - The Power review by HM

Spoiler Alert
11/01/2022

New nurse compelled to spend night in hospital during 70's black out Britain. Her company includes two nasty people fresh from the stockroom of wind-up characters. Spooky 'it's behind you' events hint at supernatural interventions during the night shift. Things get darker as her former torments as a child return to haunt her. Things go bump and wham bam in the night. Genuinley creepy the movie keeps you in a state of tension.

Things glide towards a ghosty conclusion mingling human evil and disturbed spirits. Despite the obvious ghosty references used over and over in movies, the tension works and horror/thriller fans won't be dissapointed.

A hard horror watch at times, not gory just very creepy.

No subtitles. - The Power review by AM

Spoiler Alert

Can't watch this film as it has no subtitles. This is a serious failing - a company which is too cheap to provide subtitles and  has no thought for the hard of hearing

and deaf people should not be allowed to continue in business.

Atmospheric period horror ... - The Power review by NP

Spoiler Alert
09/04/2022

This is a really well made horror – very gloomy, with a convincing period look and manner. Events take place in 1974, and this is pivotal in a number of ways, most important being the lack of ‘power’ brought about by trade union led strikes at the time, which meant that even hospitals spent time plunged into darkness.

Valerie (Rose Williams) has good reason to hate the dark, and after making enemies from the offset in her job as a nurse placed on the nightshift, spends much of her time in gloomy, unlit rooms and wards. Most people Val meets are horrible, whether as a result of their own experiences or simply because they can get away with it.

There’s a genuine sense of dread throughout, helped enormously by Elizabeth Bernholz and Max de Wardener’s creepy soundtrack. Writer/director Corinna Faith makes as much of the atmosphere as possible, and we are given reasons to understand many of the flaws displayed by many of the characters. Nice to see that many get their comeuppance or are given the chance to see the error of their ways. My score is 8 out of 10.
