very heartwarming film
- Our Little Sister review by DS
Beautiful touching story, the way its told feels like the sisters are a real family, there is an immediate chemistry, and I love how they showed lots of little special every day moments , the diary story telling is very effective.

Sheer delight!
- Our Little Sister review by TE
What a wonderful film! Very assured direction and camera work enhance a good story with rounded characters.
It manages to be 'feel good' without the usual sentimental syrup...just a simple joy to watch.
There are shades of dark in the tale, but the sisterly bonds are beautifully conveyed.
It's rare to watch a film and wish that it was a whole box-set, but I wanted to see how their lives progress.
My only concern was how they manage to stay so slim given all the very delicious food that is featured throughout!

Lovely, gentle film
- Our Little Sister review by CP Customer
I thoroughly enjoyed this film in different ways: the landscape, the depth of character of the protagonists, the way that emotional issues and family dynamics were skilfully and gently handled. It was refreshing to watch something lacking in violence and sensual rather than sexual, at that same time not childish. Loved the attention to food, stimulated my appetite and made me want to visit Japan.

Gentle thoughtful film

Loved this gentle and heartwarming film which nonetheless tackled problems of broken families, relationships and trying to maintain family and traditional values in the modern world.

Lovely film

Gentle and enjoyable family drama. Interesting glimpse of Japanese society and its values. Good to see a film with strong roles for women who are not defined solely by their relationships with men.

top banana!
- Our Little Sister review by SC
I first saw this film last year (2020) when I found the DVD in a charity shop and bought it for £1. Since then I have watched it six times, including last night. I would place it among my top 3 films ever, the other two being Vacas by Julio Medem, and Fried Green Tomatoes, oh and Mariposa. There are moments in the film which I find quite moving, and, even though I've seen the film before I always re-play the two football scenes 4 or 5 times, particularly the second one. I'm no fan of football, but the way these two scenes are constructed is just pure bliss. It's the end of September now and I expect I'll probably watch Our Little Sister again before the year's out.

A film that just shines
- Our Little Sister review by RP
If you put the plot of the film down in detail. It still wouldn't take up more than a few sentences. There are no manufactured moments to make an audience react in a certain way. There is no great shock or surprise. But the acting, atmosphere and wonderful pacing make the film a classic. The relationships are true and unsentimental. Based on a Graphic Novel. A film I just couldn't imagine being made in the West. A film that leaves you genuinely moved and happy to spend time with these people. A film that just shines.
