Straightforward retelling of how groups of Jewish survivors turned the tables on Nazis at the end of the Second World War. Despite unflashy direction and an uncharismatic leading man, it’s nevertheless a great story that holds the attention throughout. It explicitly asks the viewer: what would you do if your whole family had been butchered? Our hero, ironically, has to stop one group that’s planning to poison 6 million people, which would turn the superpowers against the formation of Israel, but where do his loyalties lie? Cue an exciting and poignant climax.
The film is English language, so not sure why someone is saying it is German. There are no subtitles available for the hard of hearing. background music too loud at times and dialogue unclear.
It says it is based on a true story. Hmm, one wonders how much, as ever with such movies.
Anyway, I am sure there was some revenge from Jewish groups as with Mossad catching war criminals or sometimes killing them in South America.
Interesting bit of hidden history. Workmanlike but OK. 3.5 stars rounded up.
This is an intense and thought provoking movie. The plot to poison the water supply of a German city was credible. I didn’t much like the double ending, but I could see the point. It is worth an evening’s viewing.
