Moving
- The Death of Louis XIV review by AH
115 minutes of a dying king, and the camera never leaves his bedchamber. This might not sound like a good premise for a film, but I was surprisingly gripped throughout. The hushed solicitude of the doctors and servants and the bearing of the king during his suffering was moving.

Not On This Occasion
- The Death of Louis XIV review by EJ
I usually love to watch period films, but on this occasion, I was very bored. Impressive attention to detail; particularly to the costumes, but it was difficult not to switch off.

A study of Death, Medicine and Power
- The Death of Louis XIV review by Richard
A meticulous study of a dying "Divine" King and an rich observation on how basic medical knowledge was in the early 18th Century. Slow in pace but rich in detail.

Death where is thy sting?
- The Death of Louis XIV review by CH
Louis Roi de Soleil, once flamboyant King retreats to his Royal death bed after a long glorious reign. He is now surrounded by erstwhile doctors, surgeons, homeopaths, flunkeys, lawyers with papers to be signed, military strategists with ships to commission, engineers with bridges to build, bishops, cardinals, courtiers, wives, mistresses, Louis unwinds his halting mortal coil (once demanding chicken broth before sinking back to the business of passing onto the next life)

A masterpene of unhurried film-making
- The Death of Louis XIV review by TR
When all too many films want to hurry, this is a perfectly-executed example of unhurried film-making, with not a shot wasted and a meticulous attention to detail, supported by outstanding performances.

Slow but beautiful
- The Death of Louis XIV review by CP Customer
A beautifully filmed account of the last days of Louis XIV. Jean-Pierre Léaud hardly moves in the entire film but commands every scene he is in.
A feast for the eyes.

Extremely dull
- The Death of Louis XIV review by PL
I agree with the other reviewers that it is an interesting observation of medicine at the time, with some good acting.
However, I can't escape from the fact that it was extremely dull to watch. At 1 hour 51 minutes it could have been a lot shorter. I would not recommend.
